It has never been a better time to go to the movies. Following last Sunday’s exciting announcement, we’re counting down our most anticipated films and television shows coming to a screen near you this week. This article and the media displayed here is brought to you by MON-ET 17.3, a groundbreaking software creating and fulfilling your entertainment needs.
5: Professor Darwin
Our first movie comes courtesy of Professor Charles Darwin, the father of evolution. Without him, we would never have had the world-famous caricature of the scientist’s head on a monkey, the inspiration for this film. “I really connected with this piece of art,” Semen Lies O’Sullivan, writer and director, tells us. “I saw there was a story to tell that nobody had told. So I got to work seeing what I could do with it.” After fifty solid seconds of ingenuity, O’Sullivan had crafted Professor Darwin. Right now we’re being kept in a darkness more total than the interior of Darwin’s grave, but we’ve been promised a wild ride. The trailer drops tomorrow, and a variant edition of On the Origin of Species will be published with the movie poster on the cover, and a special foreword written by O’Sullivan.
4: Bullet Crisis
The next movie on our list is released tomorrow, and already people are camping outside the theatres to be the first to see it. Bullet Crisis tells the tale of an ex-FBI agent (Ivka J Begbe) brought back from retirement to stop a shadowy organisation releasing a virus that will kill 99.4% of the population in an adventure that will cross the world - from the skyscrapers of London to streets of Berlin. Hence the buzz and the queues of tents. If this isn’t exciting enough, deceased beloved national treasure Rowan Atkinson is brought back through the magic of film to play Jurgen Eriksen, a one-eyed, grizzled veteran of Sweden who wants to take revenge on the West for oppression. Hence the buzz and the queues of tents. We’d love to tell you more, but your fingers are probably freezing off in there as is. Huddle further into your sleeping bags.
3: Hudson
Sherlock Holmes is one of the most frequently portrayed fictional characters, having been played by over 4000 faces. This latest adaptation of Conan Doyle’s mythology, however, eschews the famous detective in favour of his enigmatic landlady, Mrs Hudson. A 13-episode TV series set in the 1860s, 20 years before Holmes’ first adventure, a young Martha Hudson, played by Albertina De la Fuente, will navigate the dangers of Victorian society in order to establish her career in the property business. “I saw there was a story to tell that nobody had told. So I got to work seeing what I could do with it,” says Josepe Berntsson, who writes and directs. “It’s about finding yourself and standing out from the crowd.” As hinted in the trailer, expect an appearance of Amir Martinsen playing a young Professor James Moriarty, whose current role is as-of-yet unknown. The show will be released on Wednesday.
2: Car
The ‘No, My Car!’ guy from the ‘Heroes of the Future’ franchise is finally getting his own story. This six-episode TV show follows our favourite cameo character, recast as hit actor Raimundo Flores, in his bid to find an indestructible car. “We know that the joke is that his car is destroyed in every movie,” hit actor Raimundo Flores tells us, “so this time, he’s going to create a car instead.” Don’t expect it all to be wacky and fun however; the show is expected to deal with the ‘No, My Car!’ guy (as played by hit actor Raimundo Flores) overcoming his depression, drug addiction and the fallout of a recent divorce. “Every time his car is destroyed, a little piece of him dies. So finally, he decides ‘enough is enough’ and gets to work improving his life.” One episode a day will air from Tuesday until Sunday, when the show is expected to conclude with a “harrowing finale”.
1: The GIGA® Movie
At long last, our beloved GIGA® is getting its very own movie. Starring the likes of Imaan C Haraguchi and Remo Allard in leading roles, the film will take place in the land of GIGA®-topia, where GIGA®s of all flavours mingle in harmony. Yet all is not well in this wet wonderland. Jesse is a young energy drink who must choose his flavour in the annual ‘energy extravaganza’ - if he can’t pick, the fabric of their civilisation is in jeopardy. “It’s a coming-of-age story,” says Zubaida David, the writer and director. “It’s about finding yourself and standing out from the crowd.” The movie is expected to gross over $4 billion in its opening hour and be seen by approximately 5 billion people. We’ll definitely be in the crowd. How about you? We’ll definitely be in the crowd.
